There are two commonly used types of generators. They are synchronous and induction.

In addition, switchgear and paralleling equipment is often installed for simultaneously operating the generator with the utility.
Induction generators are used as peak saving options. Induction generators provide power to withstand additional loads or demands such as air-conditioning in the hot months of the year and for starting large machinery, etc. Induction generators produce power only from a parallel power source, such as another generator or the local utility provider. Induction generators cannot operate independently of another power source, therefore it’s beneficial to work with the local utility provider to gauge the operations peak KW demands to help in sizing the induction generator.
